Childhood Dreams and Adult Realities

Childhood is a time of fascination, wonder, and big dreams. It's a period when imagination knows no bounds, and the future is a blank canvas waiting to be filled with the colors of our aspirations. We dream of becoming astronauts, artists, superheroes, or explorers. The world is vast and full of possibilities, and every day brings new adventures.

Our dreams are nurtured by stories, games, and the boundless encouragement of those around us. We live in a bubble where anything is possible, and our ambitions are not yet tempered by the realities of adult life. It's a magical time when we believe that we can achieve anything, and our biggest worry might be deciding what to play next. Many people remember their childhood as a time when possibilities seemed endless and aspirations were high.

On the other hand, adulthood brings a different set of experiences and realities. The transition from childhood to adulthood can sometimes be jarring as the responsibilities of work, financial stability, relationships, and societal expectations come into play. However, this shift doesn't necessarily mean that the dreams and wonders of childhood completely fade away. Instead, they can evolve and take on new forms as individuals pursue their goals and navigate life's complexities.

As we grow older, the reality of adulthood begins to take shape. The responsibilities of work, financial stability, relationships, and societal expectations start to occupy our thoughts. Adulthood brings its own set of fascinations and dreams. While the nature of our ambitions may change, the essence of dreaming and striving remains the same. We might dream of building a fulfilling career, creating a loving family, traveling the world, or making a difference in our community. These goals, while more grounded in reality, still carry the spark of our childhood aspirations.

By blending the dreams of our childhood with the wisdom and experiences of adulthood, we can create a fulfilling and balanced life. The dreams of our youth are not just relics of the past but are ongoing sources of inspiration that can shape our future. After all, adulthood is just another chapter in the fascinating journey that began in our childhood.

Embracing Life's Grey Areas: Navigating the Complexities Beyond Black and White

Life is not simply black and white; it's adorned with an array of shades of grey, each contributing to its richness and depth. In life, we encounter situations, decisions, and emotions that defy easy categorization.

For centuries, humanity has grappled with the notion that life is not just black and white, but rather filled with grey areas. It's undeniable that the complexities of human experience often defy clear-cut distinctions. These grey areas challenge us to expand our perspectives, embrace ambiguity, and navigate through complexities with grace and understanding.

Complexity of Human Experience

Life's grey areas often arise from contrasting beliefs, values, circumstances and in the nuances of human relationships, the dilemmas of moral and ethical choices, and the unpredictability of life itself.

Every individual is shaped by a unique set of circumstances, beliefs, and experiences, leading to a diverse tapestry of perspectives and values. In recognizing the complexity of the human experience, we must acknowledge that situations often fall within the grey areas where multiple truths and perspectives coexist.

Moral and Ethical Dilemmas

Many of life's most profound challenges arise in the grey areas between moral absolutes.

When we acknowledge that everyone's truth is shaped by their unique experiences and perspectives, we develop a deeper understanding of others. By stepping into someone else's shoes, we gain insight into the complexities of their lives, fostering compassion and connection. Consider dilemmas such as euthanasia, abortion, or the ethics of artificial intelligence. These are not issues that can be neatly categorized as purely right or wrong; instead, they require careful consideration of various factors, including cultural, religious, and philosophical beliefs. Engaging with these grey areas fosters critical thinking, empathy, and ethical decision-making.

Real-world Application

In real-world scenarios, the insistence on black-and-white thinking can lead to harmful consequences. By embracing life's grey areas, we create space for dialogue, compromise, and collaboration, fostering a more inclusive and empathetic society.

It is the grey areas that creativity flourishes, when we force ourselves to think critically and explore alternative perspectives.

While acknowledging the existence of grey areas, we must also uphold the importance of moral clarity and ethical standards. Absolutes provide a sense of certainty, but sometimes they often fail to capture the nuances and complexities of real-life situations.

Embracing Motherhood: A Personal Journey

Becoming a mother is a transformative journey that encompasses both physical and emotional experiences. As I reflect on my path to motherhood, I wanted to share the highs, lows, and everything in between.

In this blog, I'll share my emotional and practical aspects of this remarkable journey, from the moment I decided to start a family to the joys and responsibilities that come with being a new mother.

The journey from an independent woman to a new mother with a career is a testament to my resilience and my ability to balance multiple roles. It's a unique journey of self-discovery, personal and professional growth, and the creation of an unbreakable bond with my baby boy. I have learnt to embrace the change, and remember that with the right support system and good time management, I can thrive as a working mother.

That magical moment when the pregnancy test revealed two lines brought a rush of joy, accompanied by a sense of cautious optimism. The initial weeks were filled with excitement and the surreal realization that a tiny life was growing within. The fragility of early pregnancy added a layer of vulnerability, making every milestone a cause for celebration. From morning sickness to the ever-expanding belly, each change comes with its own set of challenges and triumphs. Due to the pregnancy hormones, I used to experience an overwhelming joy then a sudden moments of doubt and vulnerability. These emotional landscape was vast and varied, but sharing these feelings with my husband provided a valuable support system.

As the due date approached, the nesting instinct kicked in. I started buying clothes, mittens, wraps, slowly and secretly planning for the big day. And finally late night on Feb 6th, the labor pain started. I knew the big day for which we all were waiting has arrived. We called our doctor and rushed to the hospital.

Next, I was holding my baby in my arms for the first time and that moment is yet indescribable.

Then started the sleepless nights, the challenges of breastfeeding, and the relentless learning curve but all are eclipsed by the profound love that binds me to with my child. As the days turn into weeks and the weeks into months, the adventure continues....Parenthood is a journey of constant adaptation, learning, and an ever-deepening love for the tiny human I've brought into the world.

Embracing Humility, Graciousness, and Resilience: A Blueprint for a Fulfilling Life

In the pursuit of a meaningful and fulfilling life, there exists a timeless wisdom encapsulated in the trifecta of virtues: humility in aspirations, graciousness in success, and resilience in failure. These virtues not only shape one's character but also serve as guiding lights on the path to personal and professional fulfillment.

Humility in Aspirations

Dreams are the architects of our future, yet there is profound beauty in humility when crafting aspirations. It involves setting goals that are ambitious yet grounded, recognizing the value of the journey over the destination. Humility in aspirations encourages us to remain open to the lessons each step teaches us and to appreciate the richness of the process. It is an acknowledgment that success is not a swift sprint but a deliberate and steady marathon.

Aspiration humility fosters a mindset of continuous learning and growth. Rather than being fixated on grandiose achievements, it urges us to find contentment in progress and the positive impact we can make along the way.

Graciousness in Success

Success is a shared journey, woven with the threads of collective efforts and individual dedication. Graciousness in success is the art of recognizing this interdependence. It involves acknowledging the contributions of others, sharing credit generously, and expressing gratitude for the opportunities that paved the way to triumph.

True success is not measured solely by personal achievements but also by the positive influence one has on the lives of others. Graciousness allows success to be a platform for uplifting those around us, creating a ripple effect of inspiration and encouragement.

Resilience in Failure

Failure is not a dead end but a pivot point for growth. Resilience in the face of failure is the key to transforming setbacks into stepping stones. It is an acknowledgment that challenges and disappointments are inevitable companions on the journey to success.

Resilience enables us to bounce back, learn from our mistakes, and adapt to changing circumstances. It cultivates a mindset that views failure not as a mark of inadequacy but as an opportunity for refinement. Each setback becomes a lesson, each disappointment a catalyst for improvement.

The Harmonious Symphony

Incorporating humility in aspirations, graciousness in success, and resilience in failure creates a harmonious symphony that resonates with authenticity and wisdom. It transforms success from a solitary pursuit into a communal celebration and failure from a source of despair into a wellspring of strength.

As we navigate the intricate tapestry of life, let us weave these virtues into our daily actions and aspirations. By doing so, we not only carve a path to personal success but also contribute to a world where humility, graciousness, and resilience are the cornerstones of a fulfilling and purposeful existence.

Home Loan and it's management

7-8% FD rates have been the talk of the town. FDs are once again back in style owing to the rising interest rates. RBI is being forced to increase it to bring down our inflation. But a consequence of this is higher loan interest rates.

Most people think that home loan interest rates are fixed for the entire 20-30 years. Many reputed publications and influencers were encouraging people to get home loans while they were low. Well, guess it what it doesn’t work like that. Since home loan is a super long loan running decades banks keep it floating. Meaning they change every year depending on RBI rates.

Back in 2020, home loan interest rates were at 6.5%. Now it’s touching 8%. Banks have 2 options. Either increase your EMI or increase the tenure. For a 1 Cr home, the EMI would increase form INR 74,000 to INR INR 83,000. Obviously this requires calling up all the customers and asking them to pay more. The easier option for banks is to simply increase the tenure so that you never realise the pinch.

This is what is happening. What can you do?

Now that you’re aware of this, you can call up the bank and renegotiate the interest rates with them or threaten to transfer to another bank. Banks will comply coz it costs way more to acquire a new customer.

Try to pay the increased EMI instead of increasing the tenure because the interest rates are on the higher end now. You might not get additional tax benefits for the increased EMI since you have already breached the 2L exemption.

So what are perpetual or AT1 Bonds? And what all do we need to know..

There's a lot of buzz going around about the Ministry of Finance (through a memorandum) requesting SEBI to withdraw a provision of its circular to value perpetual bonds at 100 years.

The MoF cited that there is currently no benchmark for valuing perpetual bonds at 100 years and the move could result in mark-to-market losses, panic redemptions in debt markets.

So what are perpetual or AT1 Bonds? And what all do we need to know..

AT1 bonds/Additional Tier 1 Bonds are also known as perpetual bonds. These bonds are issued by banks without any maturity date but have a call option. Banks issue AT1 bonds to meet their capital adequacy requirement. After the 2008 financial crisis, higher capital adequacy norms came into force with the collapse of few banks and financial institutions.

Banks need to maintain capital adequacy ratio of 10.875% and a Capital Conservation Buffer of 1.875% to protect themselves from any systemic risk. Banks aim to keep their capital adequacy ratio above this regulatory limit.

Perpetual bonds comes into picture here..

Perpetual bonds do not come with any specified maturity, but they can be redeemed by issuers, usually after five years or ten years. The issuer may call or redeem the bonds if they can refinance the issue at a cheaper rate, especially when interest rates are declining. They also have the option to keep paying you interest or skip and extend the tenure of bond.

Perpetual bonds carry credit risk, interest rate risk and liquidity risk.

1. The issuer has the option to write off the principal in times of severe financial stress. So, Credit Risk

2. Since perpetual bonds have no defined maturity, you may earn less interest especially when rates are rising. You could have invested that principal in higher-yielding instruments. Here comes interest rate risk

3. There is no surety that you will get your principal back on the call date as the bank may choose to extend the tenure of bonds at a future date. You'll be left with the option of selling these bonds in the secondary market but may have to exit at a loss as the bond’s price may differ from what you paid. Also, some of these bonds are highly illiquid as they have very limited buyers. Finally Liquidity risk.
